Advocacy
Outreach
Our program manager and peer leaders often travel to area schools, GSA’s and other groups to discuss GLBT issues. Keeping our neighbors informed of services we provide is very important to Safe Homes. In addition to our outreach projects, Safe Homes take part in community events like Pride Week, the Queer Prom, and fundraising events like the AIDS Walk in Boston. It is important to Safe Homes that we educate and advocate within our communities - thereby ensuring the safety of youth. We pride ourselves on being good citizens.
Safe Homes is always looking for opportunities to participate in local health fairs, community festivals, guest panel positions and other community events to help spread the word. Please contact us if you have any suggestions or requests for us to be involved.
Advocacy
Many youth that come to SafeHomes have experienced discrimination within their homes, workplace or school settings. Safe Homes is there to advocate on their part whether it is in school, on the job or in the lines of communication with their families.
Safe Homes also hosts a monthly support group for parents and family members of GLBT youth called Greater Worcester PFLAG. Many parents of Safe Homes youth have been helped and supported through PFLAG.
Be Informed: Know the Issues
Be a part of change, take charge and be a advocate for your community. It is important to stay informed of the local and state legislation that is being debated in your area. You can make a difference in your own backyard.
