People of Courage Awards Ceremony
a great success!
WORCESTER - There was much laughter and celebration at the 2008 People of Courage Awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 4.
Many local community leaders and supporters were in attendance for the 4th annual event, which was held at Coral Seafood Restaurant in Worcester. Six awards were presented to local adults, community groups and youth who have demonstrated leadership, commitment and courage, promoting equal rights for all in their professions, schools and the community.
Keynote speaker Lisa Perry-Wood, executive director of the Massachusetts Commission on GLBT Youth, urged those present to be courageous every day.
Award winner Craig Weinreich, who is also a Safe Homes adult advisor, gave a heartfelt and inspiring speech about the impact Safe Homes has on the youth he advises.
The ceremony was established by Safe Homes in 2005 as the first event of its kind in the area.
