On-site Crisis Intervention and One-On-One Counseling
Any youth that attends Safe Homes and is identified as being at risk will receive a basic risk assessment through our clinician. A subsequent supported or assisted referral will then be made and followed up by our clinician and Safe Homes Management. Do you need to talk to someone? One-on-one counseling is a FREE service. Counseling takes place at The Bridge, 4 Mann Street, Worcester. If you have any questions please contact Laura at 508-755-0333 ext. 142.
HIV Testing
All youth who come to Safe Homes are eligible for our free, confidential onsite HIV testing through Aids Project Worcester. Youth who participate in this service receive immediate results, counseling and any needed referrals.
Trainings
Safe Homes offers state of the art trainings on a wide range of topics concerning LGBTQ youth. Our trainings are geared towards Service Providers, Educators, Social Workers, Foster Parents and any other members of the community that may find themselves working with the LGBTQ youth.
Trainings offered may include but not limited to avoiding stereotypes, suicide prevention, bullying/harassment, working with LGBTQ youth in out of home care settings, the rights of LGBTQ youth in schools and foster care, transgender and gender variant youth and creating an open and affirming workplace.
Peer Leadership
In addition to the drop-in center, our Peer Leader Program is a vital part of Safe Homes. Comprised of 8-10 dedicated young people who help shape Drop-In Center programming, they act as representatives of Safe Homes and conduct activities.
Peer Leaders meet weekly to discuss the goings-on of Safe Homes and to identify key themes/problems they feel the Drop-In Center should address. They welcome new members, and act as ambassadors of Safe Homes in their schools and communities. All youth have the opportunity to become a Peer Leader.
For details of upcoming events, please see our SafeHomes Calendar.
